South Fulton has a new spot for Texas-style barbecue.
Hattie Marie’s Texas Style BBQ and Cajun Kitchen opened its doors last week at 3699 Main St. in College Park.
Husband and wife Willie and Ramona Griggie named the eatery — which serves Texas-style barbecue and cajun dishes — after Willie’s mother, who loved to cook and owned her own bakery and catering company.
“If you came to her house, you were always going to leave full,” Ramona says of her mother-in-law, who passed away several years ago.
For years, the couple talked about opening a restaurant featuring the food Hattie Marie and the rest of the family would cook up for family gatherings, and finally set the wheels in motion two years ago.
The kitchen smokes meat onsite daily — which means when the meat runs out, it’s out for the day. Meat options include a giant beef rib on a 9-inch bone, chicken wings, brisket, pork tenderloin and whole chicken. The restaurant also offers a variety of sandwiches, including smokey sausage links, pulled pork and chicken, shrimp burger and smoked turkey, and seafood offerings such as fried catfish and shrimp, crawfish étouffée, crab claws and hot smoked salmon.
Sides include mac and cheese, collard greens and rice dressing, which Ramona describes as Texas-style dirty rice that’s “a party in your mouth; sweet tea and beer are among the beverage offerings.
Open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday, Hattie Marie’s offers daily discounts for employees of nearby Delta and Porsche, as well as military and first responders.
